The world of Number Theory is abuzz with the current debate concerning a possible proof of the ABC conjecture by Shinichi Mochizuki, a conjecture which is so powerful that such a proof would completely change the landscape of modern Number Theory. In this lecture we describe just how profound the ABC conjecture is in terms of what is known about the arithmetical structure of terms in linear recurrence sequences, which itself has tremendous applications to Diophantine Equations, such as generalized Fermat equations.
