Let (M,g) be a closed Riemannian manifold with negative curvature. If it admits a locally symmetric metric, then this very special metric can be characterized as the unique minimum for the entropy of the geodesic flow. When the manifold does NOT carry a locally symmetric metric, very little is known. We will show using the Yamabe Flow that in any case, the minimum for the entropy has constant scalar curvature. We will also explain how these methods extend to some infinite volume manifolds.
