Let T be a locally finite tree. An almost automorphism of T is a homeomorphism of the boundary $\partial T$ whose action coincide locally with the action of a tree automorphism. The talk will be about certain groups of almost automorphism of trees, examples of which are Thompson groups F,T,V and the Neretin group, and the study of their commensurated subgroups. As an application, we deduce rigidity results for the possible embeddings of these groups into locally compact groups. Joint work with Phillip Wesolek.
