We study the existence and properties of minimisers in a variational micromagnetic model in one space dimension. The energy of the model features non linear, local and nonlocal terms. The interaction of all these terms with the boundary conditions yield existence or non existence in a very delicate balance. In this talk we will present some of the ideas behind the proof of the above results.
