"Motivic cohomology for everybody"

Resumen:

Motivic cohomology is a cohomology theory for varieties, and more generally, schemes that captures and intertwines both arithmetic and geometric properties. I will give a revisionist account of the theory in the context of smooth schemes and then explain an extension of this theory obtained in joint work with Matthew Morrow. I will attempt to keep the exposition friendly to non-experts and encourage more people to think about this exciting area!

"Unirational parametrizations of R_{g,2}, R_{g,4} and R_{g,6} in low genera"

Resumen:

The moduli space R_{g,2n} parametrizes double covers of smooth curves of genus g ramified at 2n points. I will report on (uni)rationality results for R_{g,2},R_{g,4} and R_{g,6} in low genera obtained jointly with Andreas Leopold Knutsen and Sandro Verra.
